By analyzing the publishing process of the two versions of James Legge’ s Shang Shu, we can see that the successful experience of the translation is that it adapts to the new trend of the development of the discipline and adopts a professional and scientific translation method to meet the non-profit publishing purpose. The successful publication of the translation has important implications for the overseas dissemination of Chinese classics, that is, we must maintain the relative independence of our own culture, promote the publication of non-profit academic books, and conform to the development trend of Sinology
