Abstract:

To summarize the social responsibility and the crisis response characteristics of
China’s humanities and social sciences journals during the novel coronavirus pneumonia(NCP)
pandemic, and explore emergency publishing mechanism. Taking 21 CSSCI journals’ notice
soliciting contributions on COVID-19 as research subjects, it analyzes the characteristics of the
notice soliciting contributions process from the three dimensions of journal properties, notice
soliciting contributions and its effect with content analysis. The results show that the contributions
are mainly in social science journals and the number is relatively small. The theme of the
contributions is closely related to the epidemic situation and based on the journal orientation.
The journals adopt expedited review, but the propagation of the products is weak. Therefore,
humanities and social science journals should actively assume their social responsibilities,
establish the emergency publishing mechanism, optimize contributions solicitation planning
strategies, and improve the editor’s comprehensive literacy.
