Abstract:

Under the new situation of changing network technology and media forms, it is of
great significance to explore the emotional experience and affective labor of editors in academic
journals to reshape their professional identity and subject value. 25 interviewees were interviewed
in depth and the interview materials were analyzed through the identity construction conducted by
editing affective labor, and the analysis framework was constructed by highlighting professional
value and giving play to subjectivity in the process of identity construction. The study found that,
editors of academic journals follow certain professional emotional rules in affective labor, use
emotional strategies such as “deep performance” to improve work experience, and gradually
establish their self-identity in the process. At the same time, affective labor helps to highlight
the professional value of academic journal editors and exert their subjectivity. The in-depth
examination of the affective labor of academic editors is helpful to break people's imagination that
editing emotion is “taken for granted”. Meanwhile, it also inspires us to think about how to further
promote the initiative of editing work and give more humanistic care to editors.
