Strategies and Its Inspirations of “Going Global” for American Academic Journals in
the Humanities :A Case Study of The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism

Abstract:

Under the leadership of editor Thomas Munro, The Journal of Aesthetics and Art
Criticism(JAAC)changed from the initial stage that it was in difficulties of operating and was
an unknown journal to later situation that it was the world leader of aesthetic journals. It can be
described as a classic case of “going global” for American academic journals in the humanities.
Munro promoted the “going global” of JAAC with five strategies: establish awareness for service
and shape the core quality of the journal; hold the inclusive style and break all kinds of academic
barriers; establish warm international contacts and create a window for international exchanges;
utilize professional academic organizations to achieve win-win cooperation; take advantage of
the government policy to add icing on the cake for JAAC going global. These strategies can also
provide useful experiences and inspirations for Chinese academic journals in the humanities going
global.
