Abstract:

The research on new media has not paid enough attention to how users understand
the fragmented but complex new media texts presented in front of them. For example, blog posts
often do not deliver all the elements and information that constitute the traditional narrative; so their
representation spaces are usually vague and unspecific. Only through the creative reading users
can gradually transform and understand the superficial and incomplete narratives, which finally
enable coherent and meaningful narratives. This paper takes Weibo news as an example to illustrate
the narrative structure characteristics and the narrative spaces constructed by the Weibo texts, and
especially focusing on the necessity of the user’s subjectivity involved in the Weibo news narrative,
so as to provide a way of understanding the narrative mechanism of the new media texts.
