Organization-driven Reading: A Study of the Chinese Communist Party’s Reading of Marxist-Leninist Writings in the Period Leading up to the Total War of Resistance

Abstract: In the period of leading up to the total war of resistance, the CPC’ s reading of Marxist-Leninist writings was to cope with the complex internal and external situation in terms of the motive for reading; in terms of the content of the reading, it included various Marxist-Leninist writings by Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin on philosophy, military, literature, art and economy; and in terms of the way of reading, it was read through the leading cadres taking the lead in the reading, emphasizing the reading of personal autonomy, and setting up a more explicit reading system; in terms of the effect of reading, the development of the Chineseization of Marxism was promoted and the theoretical level of the CPC was further improved. From the viewpoint of the motive, content, mode and effect of the CPC’ s reading of Marxist-Leninist writings, the CPC’ s reading of Marxist-Leninist writings in this period presents the obvious characteristics of organization-driven reading.
