Abstract:

This paper examines the historical context, translation activities, publication of works, and cultural dissemination of the translator group of Chinese Diplomatic Missions in Japan. It highlights how their translation and publication activities significantly informed the Qing government’ s diplomatic decision-making toward Japan, and reveals that this group, amid the shifting power dynamics between China and Japan during the Meiji Restoration era, pioneered new perspectives in Japan studies within both official and intellectual circles of the late Qing dynasty, ultimately exerting a profound and lasting impact on modern Sino-Japanese relations.
