Abstract:

AS a model of public-private partnership in the publishing industry， the SDX Joint
Publishing Company gradually focused on the publication of the academic works since the founding
of the People’s Republic of China. Among its academic publishing activities，the publication of the
history academic books took up a position. Due to the changing nature of the publishing house and
the public’s demand for academic books， the development of the SDX Joint Publishing Company
between 1949 and 1957 divided into two periods. In the phase between 1949 and 1951， which
the SDX Joint Publishing Company had the independent publishing house with its own editorial
operations， it focused on the reprint and supplement of books. In the second phase between 1952
and 1957， which the SDX Joint Publishing Company was the secondary editorial department of
the People’s Publishing House， it transformed to publish the supplement and the new edition of
books， meanwhile the new editions had gradually exceeding the supplement in species. In the early
years of the founding of the People’s Republic of China， these history academic works made a
positive contribution to the prosperity of philosophical social science and the dominance of historical
materialism in Chinese historiography.
