Why Do Powerful Tools Fail to Deliver? Structural Barriers and Adaptive Pathways of AIGC Integration in the Publishing Field

Abstract: Drawing on large-scale industry surveys and in-depth interviews, this article finds that the impediments to the application of AIGC in the publishing field are not merely transitional problems caused by insufficient technological maturity. More fundamentally, they stem from a structural misalignment between the institutional logic of publishing and the operational mechanisms of generative models. To facilitate the effective integration of AIGC into publishing, this article proposes a shift from a logic of technological substitution to one of institutional adaptation. Specifically, it calls for reconstructing editors’ cognitive framework for understanding the relationship between technology and text, promoting the structured representation of publishing knowledge and the chain-based configuration of editorial tasks at the technical level, enabling the coordinated reorganization of workflows and professional roles at the organizational level, and establishing clear risk boundaries and responsibility allocation mechanisms at the governance level.
