Collective Commentary: Thematic Framework and Reviewing Strategies of Social Reading Reviews

Abstract: Taking online book reviews as the research subjectthis article employs thematic analysis to construct a thematic framework of social reading reviewscomprising six core themes content reproductionreflective inspirationknowledge co-constructiondecision supportemotional expressionand experiential communicationalong with fifteen subthemes. Subsequentlyusing association rule mining grounded in Self-determination Theorythe article identifies three reviewing strategies a cognitive analytical strategy motivated by providing rational analysissharing knowledgeand supporting decision-making; an individual expressive strategy motivated by expressing individualityinternalizing knowledgeand sharing emotion; and a community interactive strategy motivated by social interactionsharing experiencesand obtaining a sense of group belonging. Theoreticallythe article deepens the understanding of the content structure and production patterns of social reading reviews and provides support for fine-grained content analysis and research on reviewing behaviors in future studies.Practicallyit offers implications for platform governance and functional design in online reading communities.
