Abstract: Textbooks are vital for imparting knowledge and cultural heritage, reflecting state will and authority. The textbooks in Hong Kong and Macao are foundational to “one country, two systems”. Based on first-hand Chinese language textbooks from both regions, this article reviews patriotic education integration, revealing current practices in youth education. Drawing on Macao’s first localized Chinese language textbook, it offers practical strategies for building a patriotically oriented textbook system in Hong Kong and Macao. Hong Kong and Macao share the roots of Lingnan culture and the bloodline of Chinese civilization. Macao’s practice of integrating patriotism education into its textbooks offers a replicable model for optimizing Hong Kong’s textbooks, enabling systemic national identity reinforcement while maintaining educational diversity, thereby fostering textbook innovation under “one country, two systems”.
