Abstract: This study employs text mining methods to analyze research hotspots of publishing science by examining 36533 articles from core journals between 2004 and 2025. The analysis focuses on both the macro development direction of publishing science and the micro evolutionary paths of specialized subfields. Initially, we investigates the overall evolution path of publishing science through high-frequency analysis. Subsequently, LDA is utilized to identify and extract core subfields, while calculating the thematic intensity evolution and burst term evolution paths within each subfield to explore inter-domain and intra-domain thematic evolutionary characteristics. Statistical results reveal that, at the macro level, core keywords such as “communication” “digital”“culture” persisted throughout the studied period, which reflects the strategic positioning of publishing science in building up China’ s cultural strength. Meanwhile, the significant shifts toward integrated innovation and knowledge services demonstrate a proactive response to socio-technological transformations. At the micro level, research related to publishing’ s cultural attributes and digital media studies gradually becoming prominent themes in recent years, representing scholarly endeavors that actively address the new demands of building a leading cultural nation. Future research in publishing studies may focus on the strategy of building a “publishing powerhouse” and a “cultural powerhouse”, continuing to contribute publishing expertise to the advancement of cultural undertakings.
