Publishing Digitalization:a Qualitative Analysis Based on Three Publishing Companies

Abstract:

Three publishing companies were selected forehand to study the digitalization process of publishing houses in China. The results of a qualitative analysis showed that each digital company has different strategies in setting up  digital publishing center. However, they are facing similar difficulties and challenges in choosing digital publishing systems, training digital editors etc. The challenges and opportunities are coexisting. Not only the publishing houses need to change the idea and to explore novel profit models, but also need to investigate how to restructure the publishing workflow. Other issues, such as copyright protection, digital editor training, certification of digital editors etc. should be paid attention to as well.
