Abstract: [Abstract] In the atmosphere of the times when the national was worried about the Japanese invasion in the 1930s, the intellectual elite represented by Gu Jiegang turned from the academic ivory tower to the ordinary people at the bottom of the culture. They believed that the people are an important national force that needs spiritual transformation,and the excellent and suitable reading materials for the people are the tools to transform them. Therefore, they founded The Popular Reading Publishing Company as a propaganda position, exploring typical practices such as“ new wine in old bottles”, and they finally published a large number of popular reading materials that not only appreciated and appreciated by the lower class, but also meet the goals of wartime education and guidance, which is very noteworthy.
