Abstract:
As the helm of the most important Chinese publishing organization in the 20th Century, namely the Commercial Press, Wang Yunwu was engaged in publishing and he had deep love for culture. His publishing philosophy is reflected in that the purpose of publication is the reconstruction of Chinese civilization. Besides, Wang promoted that if publishing is beneficial to culture, we should be incumbent upon the publishing undertakings regardless of any loss. He also proposed that only being independent can publishing organization make contributions to the society. Wang Yunwu’s publishing philosophy has not only established a model but also provided a lesson for the current reform and development of publishing enterprises; that is, publication should absolutely give priority to social benefits and values, and achieve a balance between social and economic benefits. Furthermore, publishing enterprises also need to strengthen self-reliance through deepening reform.
