Abstract:

Based on the abilities required of copy editors, this paper focuses on the connotations of editing
abilities, explaining editing abilities have the four features of subjective initiative, creativity, professionalism and
comprehensiveness. It points out that in modern publishing, copy editors should have editing and proofreading
ability, planning ability, managing ability and creative ability. It has also discussed the influences of professional
competenceon editors’ abilities.
