Abstract:

A prominent characteristic of South Korean publishing industry is its lack of diversity in local publication
products, so the country relies mainly on importing books from other countries to diversify its book market. Since the
proportion of Chinese books in the translated books is not quite high, there is a huge room for growth. The attention
of South Korean publishing industry to Chinese books is mainly based on market consideration, and insufficiency
in market judgment constitutes an important factor that hinders the importation of Chinese books. Meanwhile, the
paucity of Chinese language editors and professional translators also restrict the growth of translated Chinese
books in South Korea. To implement the "going abroad" strategy of the soft power of Chinese culture in the field
of Chinese book exportation, policy implementation and market should be both taken into account and the need of
South Korean readers should be fully understood before we establish a global pattern for Chinese publishing
industry and release the intrinsic value and potential force of Chinese books.
