Abstract:

Digital reading is a social and cultural phenomenon， mainly characterized by its commercial resources， recreational content， utilitarian purpose， open-environment and interactive process. These characteristics are promoting contemporary culture from a paper-reading to an information-using culture，from a closed to an open culture，from a monopoly to an equality culture， from an elite to a mass culture. Digital reading also has negative effects on reading culture，mainly shallow reading， fragmentation reading， pictorial reading and utilitarian reading. We must construct a healthy
digital reading environment from three aspects of material， system and spirit.
