Abstract:

To reduce staffs and increase the cost-effectiveness, many publishers combined proofreading with
editing, or cancelled professional proofreading department in the past years. As a result, the book quality declined. In
this paper, the author points out that proofreading is an indispensable step in editing procedure. It is the last step to guarantee
a book. Therefore, it is not only necessary but also urgent for a publisher to establish an independent proofreading
department.
