The Study on Spread and Publication of The Book of Tea since 1906

Abstract:

[Abstract]  In 1906, The Book of Tea, a tea book written by the Japanese writer Okakura Kakuzo, was
published in New York, and it caused a strong response in a moment. The purpose of this book is publicizing
culture and aesthetics of Japanese tea ceremony. For over one hundred years, the book has been translated,
published and disseminated by a variety of countries all over the world and has also gained a worldwide
reputation. This article collects the situation of publication and dissemination of English, Japanese, Chinese
and Korean versions of The Book of Tea, and analyzes writing background, connection between Okakura
Kakuzo and Chinese traditional culture and influence of the book. On the basis of the above, we summarize
the process of spread internationally and the selling in a long history of The Book of Tea. We also conclude
the characteristics of the spread and publication of the Book of Tea in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean
culture. The spread of the Book of Tea around the world has caused people to think deeply on the inheritance
and development of Chinese traditional tea culture. In the process of national rejuvenation, China also needs
some book like the Book of Tea to spread classic culture, promote classic reading and enhance people’s
confidence and understanding of tradition culture.
