Abstract:

With the large-scale spreading of western knowledge the debate between the essence of Chinese
culture and Europeanization appeared in some personal letters, diaries and newspapers at the end of 19th
century. However, the academic circles did not pay any attention to it because the comments were just bits
and pieces of irrelevant private letters, texts and newspapers. Through the publication platform and the
distribution network of the Sinology periodicals, Chinese scholars concentrated a large number of cultural
issues at that time, and showed their culture views about the insistence of sinology tradition and the advocation
of Chinese Renaissence with the academic colleagues in unofficial status at the beginning of 20th century. And
their promotion of the Chinese Renaissence received praise from both intellectual elites and young students.
