Abstract:

Analyze the history of speech and press censorship in the United States and sum up three features of the censorship. First, they usually make laws to censor speech and press, and the courts' relevant judgments also constitute precedents; but the courts didn't support the freedoms from the scratch. Second, the administrative branches of the United
States rarely blatantly interferes in the freedom of speech and press, but they are efficient at suppressing freedom with
public opinions; third, censorship in wartime is significantly more stringent than during the peace time in the U. S.
