摘要:

自 1858 年《墨子》首次介绍到西方后,历经百年跨语际翻译出版,跻身于《联合国
教科文组织各国代表系列丛书》《企鹅经典》《牛津世界经典》等西方权威经典丛书之列。《墨子》
在西方的经典化离不开西方出版机构的大力推介。非营利性大学出版社主要面向专业读者和研究
人员,强调译本的学术性和权威性,使得《墨子》更容易进入教育场域,获得主流意识形态认可,
成为学院化经典。商业出版机构则在图书设计、营销推广等市场化运作方面更具优势,而且十分
看重译本的可读性,因而极大提升了《墨子》在普通读者群体中的影响力,使其经典地位得以赓续。
考察《墨子》英译出版史,重点分析西方商业出版社市场化运作和大学出版社学术性出版在其经
典建构过程中发挥的重要作用,对当下中国文化国际传播中坚力量的出版界提升出版内容吸引力、
国际竞争力、传播影响力具有启示意义。

Abstract:

The canonization of Mozi in the west could not have been achieved without the
strong promotion of Western publishing institutions. Non-profifit university presses, which primarily
target professional readers and researchers, place emphasis on the academic and authoritative
aspects of translations, making it easier to be accepted in the educational fifield, gain recognition
in mainstream ideology, and become institutionalized classics. On the other hand, commercial
publishing institutions excel in market-oriented book design and marketing, focusing on the
readability of translations, greatly enhancing their inflfluence among general readers, and ensuring
their continued status as classics. This article examines the history of English translations of Mozi
and highlights the important role played by market-oriented commercial publishing and academic
publishing by university presses in its canonization process. These insights are enlightening for
the publishing industry, a cornerstone of China’s cultural internationalization, to enhance the
attractiveness, international competitiveness and dissemination inflfluence of publications.
