Abstract:

Prof. Tsuen-Hsuin Tsien is a famous expert on the research of Chinese history of publishing in the
world. This paper discusses his contributions on the study of the Chinese history of publishing. First, he made a
complete study on the Chinese written records before the paper was invented, and the impact on the Chinese book
system; second, he did a comprehensive study on the invention and the development of paper and printing; third,
he expounded China’s publishing relationship with the Chinese civilization from the aspect of world civilization;
fourth, he guided many graduate students to do research on Chinese publishing history , and they finished many
dissertations in this field.
