Abstract:

There is a long history of publishing education in UK and US. Firstly, this paper introduces the status of
the publishing science in the Subject Coding System in UK and US. In the Joint Academic Coding System（ JACS） in the
UK， the publishing science is one of the first class discipline, just like Information Services， Publicity studies， Media
studies， and journalism; in the Classification of Instructional Programs ( CIP) in US, the publishing science also is a first
class discipline. Secondly, this article analyzes the situation of the publishing education in China. Lastly, the author appeals
the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to grant publishing science as a first class discipline in China.
