Abstract:

Economic characteristics of publications should be considered as the prior subject in economic research
of publishing. Karl Raimund Popper’s theory of Three Worlds, Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of Cultural Capital and John
Kenneth Galbraith’s doctrine of Intellectual Capital are of great value to deep analysis of economic characteristics of
publications which belong to content products and cultural commodities. Economic characteristics of publications are
influenced by complicated factors such as technologies, markets, institutions and policies. Modern society needs
publishing industries in which public goods and private goods coexist.
