Abstract:

From Han Dynasty to Ming Dynasty, the papermaking industry of Hubei and Hunan provinces developed increasingly. Till Qing Dynasty, the papermaking industry of Hubei and Hunan provinces grew rapidly and the
production of papermaking increased remarkably, especially the bamboo papermaking and the earth papermaking. The
papermaking trade and sales expanded continuously, with Han kou, Sha shi, Xiang fan, Yue yang , Chang sha, Shao
yang and Heng yang city as the center and with waterway or road as sales transportation. In the late Qing Dynasty, with
the introduction of western papermaking machine industry, there appeared capitalist papermaking industry organ
izations and machined papermaking workshop with certain scale in Hubei and Hunan provinces.
