Abstract:

Human being is not born to read, reading is a skill that has to be learned from scratch. Human brain’s
plasticity makes reading possible. When learning to read, human brain will re-arrange its existing structures, creating
new connections and pathways, whereby develop into a “ reading brain”. A reading brain is not a mere decoder of
information, its specialized regions can recognize symbols at almost automatic speed, therefore the reading brain can
allocate more time to mental processes that go beyond the text, in turn propel the intellectual development of the individual
reader and the society. Reading brain is developed by reading books.
