Abstract:

By virtue of the digital media’ s power, a foreign classical playwright, Shakespeare, has changed from
elites’ culture capital into the populace’s culture and amusement object in China. At the same time, through the popularization and the amusement, the digital media’ s semiotic communication subverted Shakespeare’s former stable
sublime figure in China; and all sorts of digital word texts and audiovisual texts provide a more convenient platform for
the populace’ s acceptance and reading of Shakespeare.
