[Abstract] Academic book publishing fund is an important means to relieve the economic pressure of

academic publisher, disseminate excellent academic achievements, and expand the social influence of

scholars and research institutions. Academic book publishing funds in the United States mainly come from

government agencies, private foundations, other external organizations, universities and research institutions.

This paper analyzes the characteristics of academic book publishing funds in the US by investigating the

funding practices of the above-mentioned three type institutions, and suggests that academic book publishing

fund in China should be improved from three aspects, including strengthening responsibilities of academic

inheritance and dissemination, adapting to the new academic publishing situation of digital publishing and open

access and exploring funding methods through the whole process of academic publishing so as to promote the

development and prosperity of academic publishing in China.
