Abstract:

Reading is the most influential journal for the humanities and intellectual circle. It is the common
cultural ideals that have brought together the elites from both the culturaland ideological circle in order to build
the most important cultural and ideological forum and valuable space for speech in contemporary China. The
writers for Reading have gone through the differentiation of academics and ideology, separation of humanistic
spirit and secular spirit, and controversy between liberalism and new left, which demonstrated the ideological
and cultural characteristics in different periods and the clear trail of thoughts among intellectuals.
