Abstract:

[Abstract]  Paper money has been very common in Yuan Dynasty since Jiaozi in Song Dynasty. Its
significance and function in the history of money has attracted great attention of scholars. However, as a special
kind of printing material, the unique role of paper money in the spread of Chinese printing has not attracted
enough attention from the academic circles. Paper money printing in the Yuan Dynasty, a combination of ancient
advanced printing technology, was widely used and disseminated in the Yuan Dynasty under the strong impetus
of the Yuan Dynasty regime and economic activities, covering almost all the regions under the jurisdiction of its
regime, and spread far to Africa and parts of Europe. This paper explores the positive role and unique contribution
of Yuan banknotes in the outreach of Chinese printing from the perspective of printing and publishing.
