Abstract: [Abstract]　In order to evaluate the influence of Chinese journals in environmental science， the application of the h index in periodical evaluation is studied， this paper mainly takes the 22 core journals in the Summary of Chinese Core Periodicals（2014 Edition） as an example, calculates the h index of each Journal based on the quoted data on the China Knowledge Network. For the first time， the ranking of the h index is compared with other major evaluation indicators such as the total score， core impact factor， and influence index of the comprehensive evaluation of environmental science journals according to the statistics of China Zhiwang and Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China. The result shows that the evaluation results of the h index of journals are consistent with the general trend of other indicators. The h index can be used as a useful supplement to the evaluation index system of journals. In addition， the advantages and disadvantages of the application of the h index to the evaluation of environmental science journals are analyzed.
