Abstract:

With the use of behavioral event interview, questionnaire and expert evaluation method,
this study invested 202 university journal editors，and took an exploratory factor analysis to construct the
competency model of the university journal editor. The results show that the competency model of the
university journal editor is composed of 7 elements: academic quality, interpersonal skills, editing skills,
learning and development, sense of responsibility, service consciousness and innovation. This model reflects
the times needs and professional features of the university journal editors. The competency model of the
university journal editor can be used for the selection, training, and career management of journal editors.
